The importance of hotel lighting
If you're renovating your hotel, rethinking its decoration, or creating a hotel, it's important not to neglect the lighting job: it's largely through the quality of the light that you'll succeed in creating a pleasant atmosphere, conducive to the well-being of your customers.
A hotel is an ERP (an establishment open to the public) that's a bit special: the customers who come there spend a little more time there than in a store, for example, and so seek comfort in which to work, meet business relations or friends, or relax. The layout, intensity and quality of light will have a decisive impact on the comfort of your customer, who needs to feel as good as at home. You therefore need to pay close attention to the lighting you install in relaxation, work or leisure areas, to make them restful or conducive to work, but in any case comfortable.
The hanging light fixture is a must-have for thelighting of your hotel and the French brand HOOPZI, lighting supplier for professionals, hotels and restaurants, gives you in this article tips for successful interior lighting of your hotel.
How to organize your hotel's lighting?
To answer this question, there are three things to consider. You'll need to:
- Comply with mandatory workplace standards,
- Comply with ERP standards,
- Provide pleasant lighting for relaxation, work and catering areas.
Meeting electrical standards for hotels, workplaces
Your hotel welcomes the public, but it's also a workspace for teams with diverse tasks and schedules.
Interior hotel lighting must comply with NF EN 12464-1, a standard governing lighting for indoor workplaces. The lighting installation must enable your staff to perform the visual tasks inherent in their duties in satisfactory and sufficiently comfortable conditions throughout their working hours. Thus, theluminous intensity, glare index or color rendering will be taken into account to assess the installation's performance.
In the hotel sector, for example, the following expected light intensities can be noted:
| Main working areas of a hotel | Average illuminance to be maintained (valeur minimale) |
| - Restaurant area, dining room - Buffet area - Reception - Concierge - Cashier - Kitchens - Meeting rooms
- Corridor - Restrooms - Staircase - Rooms | 80 lux 300 lux 300 lux 300 lux 300 lux 500 lux 500 lux (with recommended lighting control system - dimmable e27 bulb) 100 lux (at night lower level accepted) 200 lux 150 lux 100 lux |
Lighting to ERP (Etablissement Recevant du Public) standards.
Concerning ceiling lights, it's very important that the pendant luminaires you choose have a certificate of conformity EN 60598-1 and EN 60598-2.
In particular, you'll need to ensure that your luminaires have been tested by an independent laboratory, which will have issued ad hoccertification. As an example, you can discover the certificate of conformity for the suspended luminaire made of woven electric wire and equipped with two bulbs marketed by the Hoopzïbrand. For these models of suspensions 2 bulbs, you can choose an installation in suspension spider or remote suspension, depending on the decor and lighting you wish to set up in your hotel.
The certificate of conformity attests that the luminaire's construction complies with technical specifications, and that the product does indeed meet a standard.
Each Hoopzï pendant luminaire product has been tested by the independent laboratory TÜV. This expert has thus validated the construction of each of our items and issued us with the necessary certificates of conformity to ensure the marketing of Hoopzï products.
Please note! The safety and accessibility commission may ask you for these certificates corresponding to the suspended lighting products you've installed in your establishment. Don't be surprised...

It's important to zone each hotel space and adapt a lighting scheme that must match the atmosphere and image you want to give your establishment.
You'll create a unique space, offering design and comfort, in which your customers love to stay, and later... come back.

The reception lobby is the first area of the hotel your guest will discover. It should be highlighted with sufficient light for the guest to find their way around and complete their arrival formalities, but take care with the power of your lighting: the light shouldn't be distracting, either.

At the same time, he should be able to work, read, or sink into an intimate, restful atmosphere, to take refuge in the quiet and sleep. Offer them the luxury of absolute comfort in your hotel rooms.
In general, you'll need to install a minimum of three lighting stations:
- a pendant light fixture, which at first glance will constitute the main lighting,

- a luminaire near the desk.
The Hoopzï range of pendant lighting products will enable you todecoratively combine the color of the pendant with that of the room, and create a harmony of colors. You can also install a switch fitted with a "dimmable" led dimmer, an easy-to-use system that allows you to vary the lighting power to match your guest's desiderata. So if your guest needs to work in his room, he can turn the light up to the maximum, and turn it down to a lower intensity when he wants to return to a more relaxing atmosphere.
Hoopzï also offers a collection of decorative 4.5-meter-long Bala lamps, complete with switch, and with a wide range of colors: with the help of accessories available from the Hoopzï online store, our Bala can therefore be ingeniously suspended near the bed, in the manner of wall sconces. To set up an office corner in the bedroom, Hoopzï suggests using a shelf on which the Bala associated with a cage will be placed. You'll get a solution that's easy to set up, and that will allow this workspace to be properly lit.
